Firewood Storage Tips

Storing your firewood logs in the correct manner is vital to ensuring your firewood burns as efficiently as possible. A well-ventilated wood store can help dry your logs throughout the year, even through the cold winter months. Here are our top five tips for storing your firewood at home.

  1. Keep your logs off the ground where possible. Old pallets, lengths of timber, or anything that can raise the logs at least 6″ off the ground will help create airflow around them. All of our logs are delivered with less than 20% moisture content, but keeping your logs off the floor is always a good practice.

  2. Store your firewood at least 20 feet away from your property. A well-stacked log pile can make a nice little retreat for pests – this doesn’t happen often, but in case it does, you’ll want them far enough away from your house entrance points.

  3. Stack your logs properly. Please don’t throw them in an unorganised pile, as this will prevent airflow through to the middle pile of logs, which can cause them to rot. Keep your logs stacked in a nice, uniform manner. Plus, it looks better and takes up less space!

  4. Cover your firewood stack with a roof or tarpaulin sheet. Depending on what you have at your property, it is important to keep your wood as dry as possible while still allowing a breeze to pass through the wood stack, especially during the winter months.

  5. Invest in a wood store. Over the years, we have seen thousands of top-quality wood stores, and there really isn’t a better way to store your firewood. A well-ventilated wood store will allow your firewood to breathe and dry out even further, giving you the most efficient logs for your wood burner. A store will also help to keep your firewood supplies neat and tidy while being a functional and usable structure.
